Difference between "On" and "In"

1. Use on= before a complete date.
Example
I was born on Augest,18,1992.

= before a month and a day.
Example
I was born on Augest 18

2. Use in= before a month only.
Example
I was born in Augest.

= before the year only.
Example
I was born in 1992.

= before the month and the year.
Example
I was born in Augest 1992
